“Regular check-up are not required”
This is probably the most common and dangerous myth about dentures. As a denture wearer, you tend to adapt to the slow changes that occur in your mouth, as a result you usually do not realize that there is a problem until it becomes intolerable. You should see you Denturist regularly for check-ups, because your mouth is continually changing with age and these changes occur even faster as you get older. The oral tissue can also reveal signs of diseases that first manifest themselves in the mouth. Besides evaluating your dentures, the Denturist will check your gums, tongue and jaw joints for any abnormalities.
Loose fitting dentures are a result of ongoing changes in the gums, which, if left unchecked can lead to increased bone loss and soft tissue growth. As a result the fit of subsequent dentures may not be as good. The only alternative then is surgery or implants which can be both painful and costly.
