Services
Surgical dentures are constructed prior to the extraction of your teeth and inserted immediately after the extractions by the dentist or oral surgeon, this allows the patient to have a complete smile without any missing teeth.
Immediate dentures will help you to adapt more quickly to wearing dentures and you also avoid the embarrassment of not having any teeth during the healing phase. Surgical dentures also assist in controlling the post-surgical bleeding and swelling following the dental surgery by acting as a Band-Aid over the extraction sites.
Typically the extraction sites will continue to shrink during the healing period of approximately six to twelve months following extractions. Temporary liners are utilized to help maintain the fit of the dentures during the healing phase.
Once the extraction sites have fully healed, the immediate denture will require a permanent reline to replace the temporary liner material with denture acrylic and ultimately provide a final fitting surface that is easier to keep clean. In some instances when an excessive amount of tissue change has occurred, the denture teeth may have to be reset to help restore the stability and/or esthetics of the denture.
